| Answers: Question about varicose veins? I just noticed what looks like the start of varicose veins behind one of my knees, so I looked up prevention online only to find out that the only recommendation is to avoid prolonged periods of standing and remain seated as much as possible. Because of this, I think this unwanted appearance of vein is due to a job I just started a couple months ago--which requires me to stand for my entire shift omitting a 15 min break. How is sitting down more beneficial to my health than being up and active? Humans are supposed to be mobile! It seems to me that sitting would make the problem worse due to stagnation of the blood. What are some more reasonable prevention methods for varicose veins, or even natural remedies (I'm not doing surgery so don't even suggest it)? I'm a vegetarian, so if there are any dietary suggestions, no meat. Should I wear a particular sort of shoe or insert in my shoe? I'm already wearing heel cushions since I just have trendy shoes, not athletic ones (though I plan to buy some tennis shoes when I have spare money). I do yoga and pilates, so is there any pose or exercise I should add to my routine? Much better recommendations than the websites I've looked at. I work at a cash register, so sometimes moving around can be difficult, but I can figure some sort of inconspicuous exercises to do when business is slow. |
