HarniaMy father, aged 81 years, has got harnia about 1 month ago. It is not causing any pain. In sleeping position, he even does not feel about it. He feels it more during coughing and sneezing. Sonography Report states:" There is reducible right inguinal hernia with a defect of 2.75 cms and having bowel and omentum as its content." Doctors have advised for operation but father is reluctant. Is there any remedy other than operation? How long operation can be delayed safely ? Shall greatly appreciate your prompt reply

I am a 32 from India, and am currently in pain from Harnia. As I observe here in this forum there are no answer from any professional or Yoga teacher. Is there any experts out there who can help us with our illness. I would greatly compensate you for your aid. Please post your contact information here and I, or maybe the rest of us with the same problem can contact you. Just please take this pain away.
I used to have a harnia and the only way I could get it removed was by surgery and its not painful, and if so they give you medicine to help with the pain, but the pain for the couple days is worth loosing the pain for good.
The more time you delay the operation, the dangerous it is for your father. Try to talk to your father heart to heart and make him understand that the procedure is need for his own safety.
i am 36 , i come to know that i am suffering from harnia 3 month stage kidly advice is it curable by yoga.
People keep asking what remedy can they implement against their (or their relative's) harnia when the answer is very much obvious. By the way people it is not hernia but "HARNIA", just wanted to correct you with that. You won't find any "harnia" in Wikipedia (only "hernia"). Going back, it is indeed very much obvious when you have hernia, it is recommended that one goes under the operating light. Operation is the only answer for painful types of hernia but if it is not like some of you may experienced then it is your call. Just hope it doesn't get worst or yo are all just prolonging your pain and suffering.
Study up on the life of B.K.S. Iyengar and his form of Yoga... since he's only 90 you can probably still study under him if you are serious! From Wikipedia... and this is only the tip of the iceberg. "Mr. Iyengar has also developed extensively ways of applying his practice to various ailments, diseases, and disorders. Many of these sources of suffering, from chronic backache to immunodeficiency to high blood pressure to insomnia to depression, have specific programs of Iyengar yoga associated with them." The only surgery you people should be looking at is to have your brains removed it put in bottles for people to look at.
I looked up information on a Harnia on Wikipedia and this is what it had to say about harnias and how to repir them, and some other basic information on how the repairs are done. Uncomplicated hernias are principally repaired by pushing back, or "reducing", the herniated tissue, and then mending the weakness in muscle tissue (an operation called herniorrhaphy). If complications have occurred, the surgeon will check the viability of the herniated organ, and resect it if necessary. Modern muscle reinforcement techniques involve synthetic materials (a mesh prosthesis) that avoid over-stretching of already weakened tissue (as in older, but still useful methods). The mesh is either placed over the defect (anterior repair) or more preferably under the defect (posterior repair). At times staples are used to keep the mesh in place. These mesh repair methods are often called "Tension Free" repairs because, unlike older traditional methods, muscle is not pulled together under tension. Evidence suggests that these Tension Free methods have the lowest percentage of recurrences and the fastest recovery period compared to older suture repair methods. Increasingly, some repairs are performed through laparoscopes. Many patients are managed through day surgery centers, and are able to return to work within a week or two, while heavy activities are prohibited for a longer period. Patients who have their hernias repaired with mesh often recover in a number of days. Surgical complications have been estimated to be up to 10%, but most of them can be easily addressed. They include surgical site infections, nerve and blood vessel injuries, injury to nearby organs, and hernia recurrence. (www.wikipedia.com)
