You can't learn yoga by just looking at online pictures and instruction. If you really really want to learn yoga, the nearest yoga instructor and facility is all you need to begin with.

Is it better to try and learn yoga on your own at home or should you start out going to a class or video first than do it at home?

That is the same question I would like to ask here Miss Michelle. I've always been curious about instructional videos and how to's about Yoga (there are also video games especially on the Wii) when I am on video rental shops. I am puzzled if it will yield the same result as what the regular Yoga class does? Hope somebody from the yoga community can help us answer our inquiries. Thanks.

I think you will do much better with a regular Yoga class... but the videos might be good to help you practice at home between regular classes. Ask your instructor if they have any recommendations for that.
