sir i am suffering from migraine from past 15 years.i use to take painkillers.but my problem remains as it is.please help me out.

Haven't you consulted or visited any specialist or medical professional about your migraine? Pain killers are just short remedies for your case. You should also find out what triggers your migraine and that is why it is at utmost importance to go see a doctor. It would also be of great help to drink lots of fluid a day, perhaps 8-12 glass a day. You should also need an ample amount of rest and relaxation. what is your job by the way?

If you have had a migraine for 15 years, I would most definitely go see a specialist asap. This is not something you should wait around to see if it goes away on its own. What if it is something serious like a tumor or an anurisum. i would seriously go and get this checked out. Good Luck, I hope it is not something serious.

What the? 15 years of migraine and not even improving at all. Painkillers are just temporary, that is why they are called "painkillers" because they only remedy the pain, but the root of the problem will always be there to rise and haunt you once more. Why haven't you consulted a professional?

Can't believe that people like this guy exist. I don't know if he is a complete dope or just don't have the money to see a doctor. Unlike this guy, I immediately consult specialists or doctors.

Please Gagandeep, go and see a health proffesional. If you do not have the money then go to your local health provider like rural government hospitals and centers. There must be a free medical consultation there.

Thank You.

Are you sure that it is just migraine? I mean are you diagnosed with migraine or you just think its migraine and start taking up pills to pacify the pain. Do you know that there are several types of migraine. Migraine are categorized with aura or without aura. Also migraine are triggered by different factors and mostly woman are more to have it than males. If you want to have your migraine categorized please refer on the link below.

Fifteen years and suffering migraine should have made you seek medical advice. The fact that you are still taking pain killers suggests that perhaps you are willing to postpone the problem but worse still, toy with the idea that one day the pain will go away. Seek medical advice to ascertain the true nature of your illness or find someone to talk to if you fear addressing the issue. Try the link below

In terms of work, lifestyle, family, and other relationships, migraine headaches are poorly understood by most people. They can be devastating. The pain can make ordinary tasks impossible. Unfortunately, many employers are less than understanding that "a little headache" can completely sideline a person for days. The misconception that migraine headaches are just bad headaches is common in society.

Twenty-eight million Americans live with migraine headache pain, yet many don't understand even the most fundamental information. Out of that number, four and a half million suffer more than one attack a month. Twenty-five percent of the female population is affected, and eight percent of men. Only about half have been formally diagnosed: The disorder is often misdiagnosed both by doctors and patients.

I totally agree with you over what you have just said Sheila. I would not blame the physicians entirely for misdiagnosis...most of the time we are economical with divulging all the details when we fall sick. Which makes me wonder, are there any doctors specializing in migraine for example?

I have suffered bouts of headaches in the past but most of the time, I kept shrugging of the idea of seeing a doctor. What does prolonged migraine subject one to?

Migraine is one of the least understood of human troubles. It affects loads of people in many different ways. It is NOT just a headache! Like the ones we get from hangovers. Migraines are deadly affairs that just make people crash and go to bed in a dark room and cry when the door is opened because of the discomfort and pain. Makes people want to die. Then they go away just the way they came. There are a few medications that work, one is called "Migra" where I live. In my case I was lucky and had migraines for a while a few years ago. They disappeared after awhile and have not returned. Lucky me!!

Regards and cheers!

Well I have a few friends who have been migraine sufferers for years. Their (good) doctors haven't been able to cure them, just prescribed alternating painkillers to help (or not) when the attacks come.

Maybe Gangandeep has tried different medication, but has not been able to CURE.

Try a naturopath or acupuncture specialist, combined with yoga. I've heard that those alternative methods work well on migraines. It has to do with energy blocks.

Keep trying, don't give up!

Comment #12 concerned again (63.176.159.212) -

A few days ago, my dad visited the doctor after suffering a prolonged sharp pain. He came back in the evening and asked me what migraine was all about.

Many people just treat the normal headache as just a hangover that will go away on its own. Most of the time, it worsens.

I know of a friend who would suffer migraines for a whole two hours. She would cry and complain of darkness all around her.

Indeed, medication for migraines are not any new. Many people get medication that does not cure anything. The problem still persists even in the adult age.

A few people I know used to suffer when they were young but along the line, things went back to normal.

Is there anything that can be done to get rid of migraines? I agree with Natascha over there being no conventional medication.

Studies have found that drops in magnesium are common before or during migraine attacks. This essential mineral plays a role in nerve cell function and may alter serotonin levels, which could explain its impact. Supplementing with magnesium can provide relief. Most of the time it has an immediate effect on patients.

So I suggest that those who have migraine might want to try taking supplements, well i think it would be better than to continue consuming pain killers.

A migraine headache is a throbbing or pulsating headache that is often one sided (unilateral) and associated with nausea; vomiting; sensitivity to light, sound, and smells; sleep disruption; and depression. Attacks are often recurrent and tend to become less severe as the migraine sufferer ages.

I also would have to agree with Dommy, there are different kinds of migraine and i think that you categorize yours first before taking up any medications.

I am not aware that there are several kinds of migraine, i thought that migraine is just migraine where your head will make you feel like screaming in real pain.

Thanks for that info, my friend had been diagnosed to have migraine, she also experiences insomnia. According to he physician the insomnia is just a part of the migraine and then she was prescribed with a certain drug to make her sleep.

The best method for fixing migraines, that I can think of, would have to be making sure that you are eating properly. Eating on time and eating healthy food is what is going to help cure a migraine more than anything else that I could think of, besides traditional chinese acupuncture. Eating a proper diet helps cure many illnesses as a matter of fact, and I would recommend this to anyone.

Dealing with migraine

A Migraine headache is defined as " a vascular headache that involves the excessive dilation or contraction of the brain's blood vessels." The word "migraine" comes from the Greek word "hemicrania", which means "half a skull". Anyone who have experienced migraine would attest that the pain is severe and is often centered at the temple or behind one ear.

i hgave heard that there are actually foods that can trigger a migraine attack. Some of the popular no no foods when you have migraine are cheese, Alcohol most especially red wine, Aged and non-fresh meats and liver (cold cuts), Soy beans, Italian green beans, broad bean pods, MSG, Nuts (especially peanuts), Yeast.

However there are also some foods that are good to combat migraine attack. Here is the link for those info

My friend got diagnosed with migraine, she actually had to take pain relievers and some medication to help her fall asleep and it makes her feel awful. Taking up pills makes her more sick.

So she tried to avoid those foods that could trigger her migraine attack, some of which are nuts, chocolates and cheese. It is hard for her at first for she loves cheese so much, but then she have to do that.

Here are some facts about migraine

Migraine is a kind of ordinary and very painful headache that usually occurs on one side of the head. It often commences at teenage years or early childhood. It runs in families and has a tendency to recur.

More often than not, one side of the head experience miserable pain that last from four to 72 hours if not treated. An attack requires the sufferer to have a bed rest. The frequency of its occurrence varies; one can suffer from it once or several times in a month or in a year.

Migraines have caused my brother many a problem in his lifetime, but I believe that he does not get them as badly as he used to when he was a teenager. That was the trouble age, but thank God he was able to move on and continue to progress in life despite this painfully troubling issue that had been bestowed upon him.

Migraine is just like a bunch of other medical problems people have to live with. Nobody knows waht causes it or what the remedy is. Medical treatment is useless. I spent 10 mdfays flat on my back the other day and felt like hell. Nobody could tell me what I had. No dengue, no malaria! I just about died. Migraine is just bad news. Just rest, stay out of bright light and low noice level. Just flow with the flow and live through it.

Good luck!
